Etiquette and deportment expert Penny Edge says: "Stand up straight and take a deep breath before walking into a room, restaurant or bar. Don't turn your back when you close the door. Scan the room calmly and if you don't see anyone you know, head off to the left. Research has shown people are more likely to approach you if you walk in this direction."
