I still won't act my age. Finland: June 26-July 1

Because it's relevant and for a very short while during McBusted (no idea why then and there) I was so profoundly happy just to be alive.

So yeah, here we go.

I can't even believe I didn't take any pics of Louis and my old phone's camera sucked more than I had imagined. So yeah, no watchable videos either. But there's a lovely clear row of toilets at least. And the Olympic Stadium. And a Harry Styles who is pretty much amazeballs ;) I'm SO genuinely glad on SO many levels that I decided to go, mainly because of the fact I got to know a person I had known for 14 years, but still actually didn't know, not really. She's great :)

Helsinki was beautiful, mostly clear blue sky

and the sea.

We went to Korkeasaari Zoo. Here are some kissing camels for you :) Flamingos might be my new spirit animals (or Jack McQueen). I don't think there were any flamingos at the zoo. Which was a massive disappointment.

Naantali was just so incredibly cute (and the weather was bloody cold).

It's just a ship. I mean, 2 ships, but who's counting.

We went eating out a lot, considering my hate-love relationship with food right now - Finland is a GREAT place to eat out. I wish it was just as easy here, but there's hope things are improving and quite fast, so no reason to facepalm.

Turku and the Aura river.

I love this photo. There are like ten photos of tens of thousands I have taken over the years that I love. This happens to be one of them. I can tell my mood on a given trip based on the photos, it's weird, but they do reflect my soul and my wellbeing and my everything. From this trip I can actually stand quite a few of them :)))

THIS IS US ;)

 Colours!
My beloved Estonia.
It reminded me of Toronto so much that it was like a punch into the gut - even the weather was as sunny as it was back then and it was also in March. Only about 10 degrees colder here. I miss the high rise buildings...
Reflection.
And an orchid at the botanical gardens.

It was a really nice day :)

Today these feet just hurt. Actually not just the feet. The legs.

Amazing Japan

Harry works the crowds and speaks Japanese, Niall's really focused on being a musician, Liam's checking his phone (lol), Zayn is almost late and Louis saunters to the stage without a care in the world only to find that he has forgotten his microphone backstage. Just an ordinary day in he lives of 1D :D But the stadium, the whole stadium is QUIET and you can hear them sing. It has been the same at every concert in Japan and it's AMAZING. My new life goal might be to go to a concert to Japan where you can actually hear the band sing. Respect to all the Japanese fans.

On a different note - you'd think that from a country as technologically developed as Japan you'd get a lot more high-quality videos from the concerts. But no. Better still, forget the concerts, on the evidence of last night (which actually wasn't a big deal) the Wellington curse is still alive and kicking.

Something relevant from Tumblr for a change

How I say 'I love you' to my friends:
  • "Go to sleep, it's late, please."
  • "How're you feeling?"
  • "Are you all right?"
  • "Anything I can do to at least make you feel better?"
  • "I'll stay up with you as long as I can, OK?"
  • "I'm drawing you something."
  • "Please eat something."
  • "You're a dork."
  • "You're a nerd."
  • "I love you."

It's SO cute :D Especially Louis' answer which is literally Harry's Tweet or the other way round ;) :p

Before I get to bed I'll just leave this here. His accent gives me goosebumps.

http://katsaudioedits.tumblr.com/post/105545833802/rockmeharrey-turn-the-volume-up-and-enjoy

And THIS. THE EMPTY STADIUM VERSION.

http://katsaudioedits.tumblr.com/post/105545086992/rockmeharrey-imagine-you-snuck-into-the-stadium

So kiss me where I lay down, my hands press to your cheeks
A long way from the playground

I have loved you since we were 18
Long before we both thought the same thing
To be loved, to be in love
All I can do is say that these arms were made for holding you
I wanna love like you made me feel
When we were 18

I lovelovelove this version - the person who edited this is a genius.

http://katsaudioedits.tumblr.com/post/111758764047/more-edits-piano-version

Waking up
Beside you I’m a loaded gun
I can’t contain this anymore
I’m all yours
I’ve got no control
No control
Powerless
And I don’t care it’s obvious
I just can’t get enough of you
The battle’s now my eyes are closed
No control

And the actual version. If they don't change the setlist for the European leg of the tour and we don't get to hear it live, I'm gonna cry. It's all LouisLouisLouis.

It's beautiful. And old. And they CAN sing.

Selle asemel, et töid parandada...

Tegin ise guacamolet, kotlette ja kukleid. See ei näe küll sedamoodi välja, aga kokku võttis väga kaua aega 😂 Olen täitsa rahul endaga.

Just a casual observation: Louis has gone batshit crazy. Who flies from frakking Perth, Australia to LA and then to Japan in THREE days?!?! You have three days off and then you spend them on a plane?!? Whatever. Just needed to get it out of my system.

Edit: I take some of it back. Apparently Zayn is as batshit crazy as Louis.

About films based on real people

In the past year I've watched some very good films that are based on real life and I've really liked them. So if you're looking for a film to see, here are some of the films I've loved a lot (in no particular order because it's impossible to actually rank them).

Rush - about James Hunt and Niki Lauda

Dallas Buyers Club - about Ron Woodroof

The Theory of Everything - about Stephen Hawking

Unbroken - about Louis Zamperini

The Imitation Game - about Alan Turing

Because prancing is STILL relevant, especially after last night.

Since my dear colleague didn't come to apologise, very very profoundly, my promise of prancing along the corridor at work came to nothing. It would have been fabulous. Some other time then :D

Video by Laura Cowen. AAMI Stadium, Adelaide 17.02.15.

I don't have an explanation why my blog has been taken over by a prancing Harry with fabulous hair. I kinda love the word prancing. And the hair. So here's the non-existent explanation. Rule numero uno is that you have to have a favourite member in a boyband. Well, guess my favourite member (insert a monkey emoji)! WRONG ANSWER :D

Sunday, 15 February 2015

How much mayhem can a 6-second video cause? Not much?

WRONG answer. 6 seconds from Melbourne can create worldwide mayhem on all social media platforms in seconds. And be in foreign press in no time. It's fandom frenzy. It's media frenzy. It's STILL trending on Twitter. Worldwide. Stop reblogging, stop retweeting. STOP! I'm only posting it because I know I have like 1 reader or something.

He doesn't deserve this, he doesn't. NOT like this!!! Poor him!!! IT'S NOT EVEN CLEAR WHAT HE'S SAYING!!! NOR DO WE KNOW THE CONTEXT!!! I'm just so angry at this fandom right now. Leave it alone for fuck's sake and enjoy your Sunday or Monday or whatever day it is in your time zone!!! Valentine's Day and now this?!?! - it has been a horrible weekend. He's a person for god sakes!!! Leave him be, IT DOESN'T MATTER!!! He's still the most adorable person on earth!!!

!!!!!!!

*rant over*

Aaaaaand, to conclude, The Story of My Life started playing on the radio. How appropriate.

Just ignore me.

This sums up all the emotions today :D Harry is adorkable.

T

They flew into my life (like a bra) and I don't know how to react (like Hazza). And we have the same hair :D

OTRA Sydney 7 February.

OTRA starts in 3 hours in Sydney and I'm not sure I'm ready for Night Changes. I can't remember when the last time was that a song made me so undone.

Grand 10th birthday celebrations

Here we go:

The pink drink, it's so pink it's in flames, I'd say:
Who said the pink drink couldn't be tea?

A nice little puppet just for good measure:
I mean, every self-respecting birthday party should have its own nice little random puppet.

And some indistinct us :p

I decided to be extremely original and schedule my last night's post to be published at exactly the same time I posted my first post ten years ago. I've just found out that it wasn't published and I still had to do it manually. For some reason I find it tremendously funny :D

Tuesday, 3 February 2015

My blog is ten, f*** TEN!!!!

I had a look at my first posts and thought about how life has changed in ten years. I thought it hasn't changed a lot (because let's be honest, A LOT of the things seem to be the same in my life) but then I started thinking more about where I live, what I do, what I like, who I'm friends with and it turns out life has changed indeed. In 2005 I lived in the dorm, was still in uni working on my MA thesis, sat exams, spent an obscene amount of time in the library, gave presentations at academic conferences, worked as a volunteer at the Hansaetic Days, started renovating our living-room at my mother's place, translated the fairy-tale book (one of the best projects I've taken part in, ever) and hadn't even started teacher training practice yet (at least not at the beginning of the year). Now I live almost in the city centre, have a 20-year mortgage, check national exams, interview and assess the oral part of international exams, rarely go to the library, renovate my living-room, translate books, am the chair of the foreign languages at work (and by now actually like it) and give at least 25 lessons a week in addition to doing a zillion other things; folk dancing, photography (not lately, though) and going to the cinema taking up a lot of my spare time. After an inexplicable gap of quite a few years I've turned back to listening to a lot of (new) music lately. It's liberating. Thank you, Spotify!

I'll start with people - if compared to exactly ten years ago then, leaving my family aside, I think there are only three people who I still regularly hang out with today. Shout out to my BFF, you've tried, HARD, to move as far away as possible, but to no avail :) Everybody else has moved, mostly physically moved, out of my life. However, the last ten years has brought me together with great people, either online or irl, from all walks of life as well as co-workers who I respect and hold close to my heart. This group of people has changed as well, but I have a feeling some will still be here in ten years' time. I also think there are many more people I communicate with nowadays than there used to be in 2005. However, it hasn't been my goal as I strongly believe in a few close friends rather than a great number of acquaintances. I actually strongly regret I haven't kept in touch with some of the people from back then, but I guess that's life. Oh yes, and I was quite infatuated with K back then, wherever he is now... Time does heal everything.

My love for Hiiumaa is the same, I still believe it's the best place on earth and it's safe to say that it's not going to change in the near future. In 2005 I hadn't been to the UK yet, I hadn't been to Canada yet, I basically hadn't been to anywhere yet, I hadn't travelled by plane, I didn't have any friends abroad (well, except Chris, but that was through work), I can't believe this has all happened in the past ten years. It feels like I've always been irrationally and hopelessly in love with the UK, but back then Canada was everything. Canada still is everything and my dream is to go to Vancouver, but it has made room to some other places next to it (mainly the UK, though). In the past few months and partly thanks to a certain pink-haired someone, New York has also become more of a bit of everything than it used to be and it scares the living daylights out of me.

I used to write a lot more here because there was no Twitter, no tumblr, no Snapchat, no Instagram, no Facebook, no AO3, no Fotki, there was just my blog. Sometimes I hate Twitter because thanks to it my attention span has been reduced to a big fat zero (ok, who am I kidding, I had major problems with my attention span and ability to concentrate back then as well, I'd gladly erase the whole process of writing my MA thesis from my memory, because that was torture extraordinaire). I hate tumblr with passion because it's a huuuuuge waste of time. Snapchat is even more pointless (hence I presently like it a lot). At the beginning of January I decided to start a project called Me As Emoji aka A Selfie A Day/Week/Month Keeps Away The Fear Of Me Taking Myself Too Seriously (don't worry, I'll try to spare you of all of the selfies) on Snapchat. It also serves as my New Year's resolution of trying to accept myself on photos. I love Instagram, I don't care about FB, AO3 is an evil death trap that I seriously wish I had never discovered and Fotki is a means to an end. What did I spend my time on back then? It was the heyday of Soulseek and music and MSN, also OkC (or maybe not yet) if I remember correctly. I used to read a lot of blogs. It was also roughly the time of burning films onto CD-ROMs (I think), I have hundreds stacked away somewhere. I didn't have a laptop back then, let alone any other gadget. I can't remember when I bought my first mp3 player (it came before my iPod that I bought from Toronto), it must have a been a bit later. I did have my first digital camera (or at least I could borrow T's who was FOURTEEN then. FOURTEEN.)...

My obsessions? What's life without them, right? I actually can't remember... It was slightly past the time of "decathlon is my life" (but only slightly, Roman Šebrle and Reval Cup still seemed to be in the picture, a lot) but a bit less than two years before Take That took over my life. It might be pathetic but I consider Take That to be one of the best things that has happened to me in the past 10 years. TT has changed me more than decathlon because I was no longer a teenager when it hit me and I was more open to all the possibilities that came with it (both emotionally and financially). Decathlon was just watching TV, going to competitions and cutting out stories from newspapers (yes, actual cut-outs!), TT was so much more. Thanks to Jason, Howard, Gary and Mark I still keep in touch with some fabulous people and I've travelled a lot. They have made me smile, they have made me more confident, they have broadened my horizons ("they" meaning the band and the fans). I met up with Vi in Toronto in 2007 after knowing her for just a couple of months on the TT forum, I travelled to Oslo and then to London for a birthday party and Concert for Diana, and then to Zurich for the Beautiful World tour (in a way this trip saved me on so many levels, because I had been crying for a month straight before going there), and then a month later to Aalborg. It was all during the same year! A couple of years later came Manchester (The Circus 2009) and Munich (Progress 2011), meetups in Amsterdam and Oslo, it's been pure joy. But back to 2005, obsessions? Apparently I watched a lot of skiing and also track and field, at least that's what I have been writing about. It was the brief period of me actually doing swimming as a real training with an actual instructor. It was the time when Priit Võigemast was very much in the picture. And apparently also Johnny Depp. When isn't he? I already loved LOTR and HP, these books have changed my view on everything I've read later. I bought Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code TEN years ago, it seems like yesterday. I used to watch ESC back then and I still do, it's just a bit less important of an event. Oh, Bryan Adams, obviously, 2005 was the year of Anthology. The X-Files? They finished making it in 2002, so I guess I had seen it all by 2005. SPN hadn't started yet, let alone Merlin, The Vampire Diaries, White Collar or any other BBC goodies. Except Midsomer Murders, but that doesn't count. What on earth was I watching? Alias!!!! It was all about Jennifer Garner and Michael Vartan back then. Maybe also Dark Angel? But they also stopped making it in 2002... Films? Even all the films by Jake Gyllenhaal came later. I wasn't even obsessed with accents yet - how boring was my life exactly? Not that my latest obsessions are particularly interesting, as far as Louis is concerned, it's pathetic to tell you the truth. Another Jason all over again, I can see SO many parallels, but there are also things that weren't there 8 years ago. #WontActMyAge

On a sidenote - I've just read that my waterproof jacket is TEN years old (it's the best jacket in the world) and so is one of my summer dresses. Oh, the thing that has changed, I didn't wear any dresses or skirts whatsoever, not even in summer. Now I'm proud to say I wear dresses and skirts to work and to everywhere else. However, I am not so proud to say that they tend to get shorter and shorter as the years go by.

Has my blog changed? Of course, loads. For one - I used to post under irvikkala in the early days. I also used to write in Estonian, now it's mostly English, I blame it on ... life? I used to write a lot more about language. Now I use language to write... I think I had more time to think, at least that's the impression I get from the posts. Nowadays I post more photos and videos than actual text posts, I blame it on the lack of time (both to write and to read what has been written) and the changed means of communication (fewer words, more visuals). I did start with my photoblogs 10 years ago already, I didn't remember that! Some things remain the same, though - I'm still as cryptic as hell and don't remember what half of the code words stand for in my (older) posts (except the really relevant ones). Also, I post the things I'm passionate about and I actually haven't lost the ability to laugh at myself (I just don't write about the stupid things I do daily).

A summary of going quickly through much of 2005 - I bought this/did this/watched this TEN years ago?!?! OMG, I'm old. Here's to another ten years. Cheers! We'll go out with Evu tomorrow (because we've known each other for almost 10 years now and it's directly thanks to blogging) and celebrate Peeglitagusel maal's birthday very properly, I promise :) Preferably with some pink drinks ;)

You soft cute flirty thing (never ever have truer words been said by anybody, thanks Sarah)

My excuse to post it is that it has been made by freddieismyqueen. And that person is a video wizard.

Freddie is my Queen ehk muusika-aasta jätkub

We saw his concert from Montreal 1981 today at the cinema. I thought it would be good, but it was above anything I thought it would be. Big screen. Great sound. MUSIC. I'm so overwhelmed right now.

Little Things once again. I don't know why I love this particular performance so much.

Haha, god bless Louis and his "What? Boys why did we choose to sit on the floor? Whose choice was that?" at the end.

2015 on ametlikult muusika-aasta

Kohas nimega MATRIX complex. Get out!

Esimene üritus, kus me sel aastal käisin: kontsert. Klassikalise muusika kontsert. Hoian naerust kõhtu kinni, kui Kristjan Randalu kontserti ülalmainitud piletitega võrdlen.

Esimene film, mida sel aastal kinos vaatasin: muusikafilm. Whiplash.

Have some accent porn. You're welcome.

Colin being so so serious. Have I mentioned that I could listen to him for hours? I might have. A couple of (hundred) times. And I want to see the film! On a lighter note - I find seeing half of Kit Harington pretty funny.

Thursday, 1 January 2015

When I have a look at my very few Twitter followers, I'm basically dying with laughter and involuntarily do a double take every time I see the line that says "Follows You". It's bloody ridiculous and I've got no clue why I even did it, it was a spur of the moment decision that I don't have an excuse for. I guess I was delirious. PUN INTENDED. It's so far from everything I believe in, but when you're in deep then you're in deep and there's nothing doing. It is what it is. AGAIN, PUN INTENDED. I just hope it will continue to be a source of joy and happiness all through 2015, entertainment pure and simple, nothing to do with my real life, just something to obsess about, be crazy about and enjoy. It will probably end in tears, I've seen it all.

Ridiculousness

Thomas, ILU :)

Friday, 19 December 2014

For some reason I feel like writing about stuff today. Looking back at the 4 months of this schoolyear, the common denominator has been ... there isn't one. My life's still a rollercoaster, even more than before. There are the absolute lows that I fear (who am I kidding, they scare the living daylights out of me) but when these pass, there's euphoria. Euphoric happiness about surviving another low. Euphoric happiness when a day passes without any problems. Euphoric happiness about the weight loss. Euphoric happiness about the confusing two dorks from a reality show (I've still got the emotional stability of a 14-year-old). The Matrix was and is and will be the thing that makes the most sense (doesn't make ANY sense, it was a sign) and made my October break, obliterating the killer headaches and long bus rides. It worked as a bond that helped me over a lot. I wasn't expecting it, but there it was in all glory and if I need to, I can go back there and use my stupid sense of humour and know it's actually appreciated. There will be a lot of opportunities for that in the coming months. I'm just so glad that I know how to make tiny things count and use them as a source of such happiness. I'm doing my job that I actually love. Yes, in the light of everything, I've reached the conclusion that I love my job and a lot of the people who I work with. I guess the realisation comes from all the problems I've had with myself lately. After two days of a complete disaster, I made my presentation yesterday without major problems and I'm overwhelmingly proud of it. More proud than I should be because it wasn't a big deal. What else? My living room will be beautiful, it's worth it, it has to be. It's actually a happy post, I didn't think it would be at first. Shine bright :)

Awww, I still remember when he looked like that... But the deleted scene is !!!

Whoever thought that Merlin couldn't be Irish was a moron. We could have had 5 seasons worth of accent porn!!!

And then I read somebody's comment: "wait one HOT SECOND. is this the less cute one from MERLIN? Am i looking at the SCARF ONE from MERLIN??? is that who this fucking is?????"

The hashtags need to be reproduced as well: "#non-merlin fans suddenly realizing that colin morgan is hot #is my new favorite thing #while the colin morgan fans sit and drink tea in the background while watching the world burn"

"THE LESS CUTE ONE" HOW DARE YOU????

Just watch this. Is it OK if I want his eyelashes, they are illegal. If I can't sleep, I'll put that on, zone out the words and just listen to his accent.

TuleTulemine 2014

It looks like A Long Way Up :) Without Ewan McGregor, unfortunately. Me geniaalne idee valida etapp Tartu lähedal tähendas lõpuks ikkagi 35 km ringikest. Ja kus sadas, ladinal. Pluss korralik tormituul.
